TRANSIT PICTURES Zero

June 1999

These pictures were taken around the time I graduated from William Cullen Bryant High School on the date listed above.  They are only now being put up because when these pictures were developed, I didn't have a web site, so there was at the time no need to order a picture disk.  These pictures were scanned into the computer on January 7, 2001, a year and a half since they were taken.

0-01 A view of the Coney Island Yard from a passing F train. 0-01 21K
0-02 Some old cars in the CI Yard, viewed from a passing N train. 0-02 20K
0-03 The only places where you would see a 7 train and an N train in the same view are at Queensboro Plaza and the Coney Island Yard. This photo demonstrates the latter. 0-03 20K
0-04 A work train viewed through the fence of the 36-38 Street Yard.  This picture was taken at 37th Street and 7th Avenue. At this point, Seventh Avenue is sandwiched between Greenwood Cemetery and the yard. Because of this, it's only one block long, running between 36th and 37th Streets. 0-04 33K
0-05 A view of the western portion of this yard, which runs from Fort Hamilton Parkway to the Jackie Gleason Bus Depot.  That's the reason why those buses on the right side of the picture are there. 0-05 22K
0-06 Two B trains pass each other on the curve south of 38th Street and east of 4th Avenue 0-06 26K
0-07 The Arthur Ashe Stadium towers over the inspection shed of the Corona Yard. This picture was taken on the ramp that connects Flushing Meadows Park with the Willets Point Boulevard station on the 7 line. 0-07 24K
0-08 A 7 Express train about to enter the Main Street station. The point where the line goes underground is at College Point Boulevard. 0-08 23K
0-09 Two F trains pass each other outside the Smith & 9th Streets station. 0-09 23K
0-10 It says in Brian J. Cudahy's book,
Under the Sidewalks of New York,
"The two stations that were opened in 1931 [Fulton and Broad Streets on the Nassau Street Line] were finished off in the same style of color-coded tile work that was used on the Independent [subway system]."
Looking at this picture of a wall at the Fulton Street station, you can see the old tiles seen above the new ones.
